GPS logger for photographers

Geotag every photo. Back to its place.

ShutterRoute records your photo walk as a GPS track on your phone. Back home, export a GPX file and add the locations to your pictures in Lightroom Classic, ExifTool or digiKam.

  • iPhone & Android
  • Works offline
  • No account needed
Example route: a 3.2 km loop through a city park, recorded on a phone Spree Tiergarten
Sample walk

Geotag your photos in three steps.

  1. Record your photo walk

Start a GPS track before you shoot. It keeps logging with the screen locked, even offline.

  2. Review the route

Browse your walks by month and correct stray GPS points on the map.

  3. Geotag your photos

Export a GPX file and your photo tool matches each photo's capture time to the track. See how.

Your routes stay yours. Cloud sync is optional.

The app

Made for the walk, not the screen.

  • Start, then put the phone away. Recording continues with the screen locked, a point every 30 or 60 seconds.
  • See the route as you go. The track draws on a real map, with elapsed time, distance and GPS accuracy at a glance.
  • Every walk, kept on your phone. Browse your history by month and export GPX with or without an account.
ShutterRoute on Android and iPhone: the walk history next to a walk being recorded through Tiergarten, 43 minutes and 2.1 km so far.

Questions about geotagging

Read the geotagging guides
What is geotagging?
Geotagging adds GPS coordinates to a photo's metadata, so photo apps and maps can show where each picture was taken. Cameras without GPS can be geotagged afterwards from a recorded track.
Which photo tools can geotag from a GPX file?
Lightroom Classic, ExifTool and digiKam all read GPX tracks and match them to your photos by capture time. ShutterRoute exports standard GPX 1.1, so any of them works.
How are photos matched to the route?
On your computer, a photo tool compares each photo's capture time with the recorded track and writes the location into the photo. Correct the camera's clock and time zone there; moving points on the map never changes when they were recorded.
Does the app touch my photo library?
No. The phone only records where you walked. Your photos stay where they are until you add locations on your computer, using a GPX file or the API.
What does cloud sync add?
With an account, synced walks appear on this website. You can review them, correct points and save a new route revision; the original measurements are always kept. Personal API tokens let an importer on your computer read your routes.
Who can see my routes?
Only you. Walks are private to your account; there are no public profiles or shared walks.
